SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Santa Barbara County south coast and mountains due to expected critical fire weather conditions.
The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, to 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018.
A Red Flag Warning means that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can create extreme fire behavior.
A statement from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department reads:
* Winds…North 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, strongest in
* Relative Humidity…Minimums mainly from 20 to 30 percent late
Saturday, then 15 to 25 percent Sunday into early Monday
* Impacts…If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable
for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and
property. Use extreme caution with potential ignition sources.
Residents are advised to use common sense and caution during this period, and remain vigilant for any potential fire hazards.
